A New Favorite Dinner Time Activity

My girlfriend Jaque gave me a Christmas present that has blessed our whole family. It is a darling little box of dinner time conversation starters by a company called "The Box Girls."


My children actually argue over who gets to pick the card (hmmm...perhaps this defeats the purpose of warm fellowship and connection? Naaa...their eleven and thirteen, arguing counts as warm fellowship). Each night that we are able to gather around the dinner table (when we're not at a basketball game, a cheer leading practice or a church event), one of the kids pulls out a little round card and reads the question. Last night this was our card...



These little cards have proved to be an enjoyable kick off to some great conversations.

Perhaps one of your New Year resolutions was to spend more time talking with your family and eating healthy meals at home? This might be just the thing to keep that resolution going. I was even thinking that when we get through all the questions from this box, the kids could make up their own questions.

An Old Prayer for a New Year!

As I waited for my toast to pop out at me this morning, my eyes came to rest on a bookmark that has been hanging from my cupboard for over five years now. Today I chose to read it aloud (something I hadn't done in a long time) and as I did I remembered once again my daily need to ask for a fresh experience of Jesus. I hope praying this "old prayer" of mine starts your New Year off on the right foot. As an aside, this prayer was the beginning of my first book Prayer Starters for Busy Moms! I thought I was just praying to my Savior but He had other things in mind...namely a new career as an author. Who knows what your next prayer could be the beginning of?

Jesus is Crazy About You!

What would happen if you BELIEVED that Jesus loves you this much?


What would happen if you BELIEVED that He knows everything about you and he is STILL absolutely crazy about you?

What would happen if you could grasp the pleasure that you bring Him just by being you?

How would that change your life?

This New Year I pray for you (and for me) as Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:14-19...

My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit--not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength--that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Life full lives, full in the fullness of God.

God can do anything, you know--far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. (The Message)
